About Sent(A)Mental:
The Sent(A)Mental Project is an artistic memorial to suicides in the GLBTQIA community. S(A)M "hope(s) to bring visibility to mental health issues and draw much needed attention to the thousands of people lost within our community over the years due to overwhelming stigma and lack of dialogue around these issues."  The project accepts any kind of medium and accepts submissions on an on-goings basis.

 As part of a project funded by the Leeway Art and Change Grant, I am creating a short film to submit to S(A)M entitled The Weeping Cabin. The film will utilize puppetry and magical realism to confront depression, trauma, and suicides and demonstrate the beauty that comes with survival. I mention this because part of this project will be filmed at the performance. So in addition to the wonderful music and spoken word, there will be a five foot tall puppet with a house for a head wandering around

The ragdoll puppet from lili longed to feel her insides is on exhibit. The short film and visual art was inspired by Lili Elbe, a Danish painter and trans woman who lived during the early 20th century. She underwent some of the first and very experimental gender reassignment surgeries. Her last surgery ( a uterus transplant) eventually led to her death.
]]><![CDATA[Puppetry Workshop at Colby Sawyer]]>Sun, 22 Apr 2012 08:23:23 -0800http://www.stitchingtentacles.com/1/post/2012/04/puppetry-workshop-at-colby-sawyer.html  Last Thursday I trekked up to Colby-Sawyer College in New London, NH to do a puppetry workshop sponsored by Safe Zones. After a brief history of puppetry as a tool for creative resistance, we assembled our own puppets from cardboard, fabric, hot glue, and glitter. All the puppets were creepy and magical. Needless to say I was impressed.
